Get your university's community going
For a student, society lead or staff member: join your university's community, share its page, and have the first coffee yourself.
Updated October 15, 2026
Every university here has its own page, and anyone with an address at one of its domains can join its community. A community only comes alive when a few people who know the place get it started. This guide is for whoever wants to be one of them: a student, someone who runs a society, or a member of staff.
Being first doesn't make you in charge. Until the university's own team makes it official, the community has no host, and you're a member like everyone else.
1. Find your university and join
- 01Go to Get started, choose "My workplace or school", and search for your university.
- 02Open its page and select "Sign in to join". Any account works.
- 03If you didn't sign in with your university address, the page asks for it and emails you a 6-digit code. Enter it and select "Confirm". Nobody else sees that address.
- 04Select "Join" followed by your university's name. Confirming your address doesn't add you. Only that button does.
2. Share the page where your people already are
Copy the page's address from your browser and share it in the places people already talk: a course group chat, your society's channel, your hall or residence group. A short personal line works better than a pitch, something like "I joined this to meet more people on our course over coffee. Join if you fancy it."
- The link preview shows your university's name and says the community was started by members, so nobody mistakes it for an official message.
- Only people with a university address can join, so sharing it widely is safe. Anyone else who opens it can look, but can't get in.
- Share it where you'd share anything else. Please don't post it anywhere you wouldn't usually post, or message people who don't know you.
3. Have the first coffee yourself, in week one
Introductions start once someone else has joined too. We introduce you only to other people in your university's community, one person at a time, on Discover, which your home opens for you. When you see "I'd love to meet" and someone's name, select it and suggest a time. When they say yes, go and have that coffee. A first coffee that really happens is the best sign to everyone else that it's worth joining.
Some communities fill up in a week and some take a term. Both are fine. If it's quiet, one more message in one more group chat usually does more than anything else.
What members see
- The page names nobody and doesn't show who has joined.
- The address someone confirmed with is never shown to anyone, you included.
- Each member sees their own introductions, to other people in the same community. Nobody is told when someone selects "Not now".
- Anyone can pause their introductions at any time from Settings.
How to leave
Open the community from Spaces and select "Leave" at the bottom of its page. You stop getting new introductions there. The people you've met and your conversations stay yours.
If the university wants to make it official, or take it down
The bottom of every university's page says how its own team can reach us: write to hello@letsgetcoffee.app to make the page official, or to ask us to remove it. A person reads every message. If it becomes official, members stay members. If it's removed, people already in it stay members, but nobody new can join with their university address.
